Hi, everybody.
I come back to you because i need help to determine the family and, if possible, the genus of that gastropod from the Cenomanian of Port-des-Barques in the department of Charentes-Maritimes, South-West of France.
Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Cheers,

Sophie.

Hi Sophie,

This is a difficult one for me. These kind of steinkerns are often very hard to identify, in particular when they are worn down a bit, like this one.

These kind of big, bulky gastropods are often placed in the Stromboidea. Sometimes people put the genus name "Strombus" on it (with the quotation marks; i.e.: "Strombus incertus" (d'ORBIGNY, 1843)), although that is (in my opinion) not really substantiated.

I'm sorry that I cannot help you any further.

Cheers,
Johan

Thanks, Johann, and i don't really expect to have a precise identification because there is not a lot of details to help.
I had the idea it could be a conidae, but the opening didn't fit. The Stromboidae family fits better.

Cheers,

Sophie.
