kraakbeen vondsten haaien nl/be

Charleston is one of the world's epicenters for fossil shark teeth - but there is more to the fossil record of sharks than just teeth. This strange white lump is all fossilized cartilage! Shark cartilage is not soft like your ears - it is called prismatic cartilage.
Shark vertebrae are cartilage and frequently fossilize. This big lump is a gigantic otic capsule - an inner ear! The semicircular canals are tucked inside this strange thing.
We hypothesize that this specimen, owing to its fantastic size, is an otic capsule of the extinct megatoothed shark Otodus/Carcharocles angustidens - the ancestor of O/C megalodon. Collected by Dr. Boessenecker from the uppermost Chandler Bridge Formation in 2018.[/i]

My armour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are
swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail
is a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my
breath death!
