I have always called them \'concretions\' but have heard them called noduals also. Im not really sure what makes them. I have heard that when a critter dies and gets buried, the trapped rotting gasses draw in iron molecules and hardens the matrix. But im purty sure that there are many ways of a concretion being made by mother nature?
