Backyard Treasure
Backyard Treasure
While exploring my daughter's large backyard in Southlake, Texas, I discovered an interesting slab (possibly uncovered during the building of the house). I haven't worked on it yet. Maybe I should leave it in its present state. So far I have identified a species of Turritella, gastropod, and nautilus, along with a mix of identified fragments. There's no telling what else is in this rock. I read up on this area. It's close to Lake Grapevine. According to a geological map I found online, this is within the Woodbine formation, which contains an assortment of vertebrate fossils. Nevertheless, I assume my slab is also of Woodbine age (Late Cretaceous).
