New User Introduction ~~ Sites near Utrecht?
Hello, I recently arrived in the Netherlands from Florida to do my PhD.
I am studying in Utrecht and am a rockhound and fossil collector. I am looking for some info on any spots close to Utrecht to do some hunting or other spots accessible without a car.
If y'all have any tips it would be much appreciated!
Cheers!

Hey @atarias1 , welcome to the forum! Florida is a great place to go fossil hunting. Compared to that, Utrecht is a really fossil-poor area...
On our website you can find an overview of fossil sites in the Netherlands: https://paleontica.org/locations/
As you can see, here most sites are at the coast. Relatively accessible sites would be the "Zandmotor" : https://paleontica.org/locations/fossil/640
You can take the train to "Hoek van Holland - strand" and then walk along the beach. Check the tides before you go. You can mostly find Pleistocene mammal bones and molluscs here.
What will your PhD be about?
Cheers,
Johan

Hi there!
Thanks for the information! I will try to make a trip out to the coast soon then.
I'm actually a geologist, but will be studying serpentinites and eclogites though rather than fossils.
Thanks again for the tips!

Cool! I also did my PhD in Utrecht, on the K-Pg boundary.
Cheers
