Mystery Object 3
Mystery Object 3
Hi
This is one half of a nodule which I found at Runswick Bay, Near Whitby, England.
The object is in the bottom right of the nodule pic.
The other pic is a blowup.
Could this be a fossil?
I thought that it might be a Brachiopod.

Re: Mystery Object 3
it\'s a fossil all right. Possibly brachiopod, otherwise a bivalve.

Hi Frederick
Thanks for your comments.
It looks like I will have to retain a Mystery Objects page on my website.

New Mystery Object
Hi Folks
Yet another object.
Please work your usual magic.
This is the other half of the nodule from Runswick Bay.
Could this be a Belemnite?

Re: Mystery Object 3
Hi Folks
I\'ve been told that this could well be a pair of belemnites presented in longitudinal section due to heavy erosion of the nodule.
???

Re: Mystery Object 3
HI Charles
Thanks for that.
I\'m thinking about splitting the nodule again but I am afraid of damaging the existing fossils.

I wouldn\'t do that if i were you, you could end up with \"nothing\". The nodule looks very solid to me, so extracting fossils from it without damaging them could be very difficult i guess...

Hi Charles
You are absolutely right, the nodule is very hard.
I have decided not to touch it and look for more similar ones next time I\'m in Runswick Bay.
Under a magnifying lense, the nodule appears to be full of small fossil fragments.
Thanks for the advice
