Goede ruil gedaan

Mooi exemplaar!

Hi!
That´s a really good example you got there, Erik.
There is one pyrit-bed near the lowest level of the quarry where those examples of Amaltheus are not so extremely rare ... but normally it´s hard work to find one.
Personally I found three examples of greater Amaltheus (across 20 cm) the last three years ... approximately I visited the quarry ten times in this period.
The greatest kind of Amaltheus I´ve ever seen from Buttenheim has a diameter of about 60 cm. It´s in the collection of Johann Schobert (Hirschaid near Buttenheim). I post a photography of this example. Not very well preserved, but of an impressing greatness.
Furthermore I attached a photography of the quarry in may 2009 and one of my three greater finds of Amaltheus. Unfortunately it was not fully substantial preserved, but you can´t alway get what you want...
Here you can take a look at the preparation of the Amaltheus margaritatus:

Very great Buttenheim-Amaltheus preparation studies of Harald Bergmann can be seen here:

Your englisch is very well.So i think i can better write englisch.Because the most Dutch people are better in englisch, then german.I,ve visit Butenheim twice a lot of years ago.And i couldn,t find a big exemplar of Amaltheus Margaritus.A pity for us that Buttenheim is so far away.I wish i could go there back once.Nice photo,s btw

"Bedankt" for your adress of welcome!
@Erik and Everhadus: I think it isn´t really consoling .. but I´ve also 400 kilometres to ride before I can start searching at Buttenheim. So I am only one or two times the year there. Near Bielefeld it is more complicated to find fossils ... but if you try hard there are once in a while also good findings.
And if I look at your finds from Mill, Winterswijk etc. ... I see each region has it´s own specialities and at nearly each place there are various possibilites.
I post some more pictures of Buttenheim fossils within my collection:
- Pleurotomaria amalthei and Pleuroceras sp.
- Pleuroceras transiens, about 5 cm.
- Pseudokatosira undulata on matrix, 55 mm
Best regards

Hello Sönke, did you know the second time i visit Buttenheim i found a Pseudokatosira.I still regret i didn,t pack it in with newspapers. And put it in my bag.So my brother was digging. And by mistake,he was digging the shell away. Now i learned,if you find something realy inportant.Pack it in and hide it awaySönke schreef:
