To me it looks like a flintstone.
@Tom: what are the typical characteristics for a sponge here?

Best wishes,
Oliver

Broad spongebody. check
Broad concave osculum with many canalopenings at the top. check
Short and narrow stem. check
Broad foot at the base of the sponge. check
Heavily silification like is common in the region of Paulmy. check
Only the tetraclonellid skeleton isn't clear to see :(
But I/You can study in Courtiller :https://books.google.nl/books?id=5ltDAA ... &q&f=false Plate 1-3 Although he named the sponge Rhyospongia. By now most of the sponges like these are kept under the name Jerea clavata

Thanks Tom. I believe you because you are familiar with the material. But it's just that I don't see the openings on the top.

Hi everybody,
I understand Oliver why you don't see the openings. You can see the little rounded black spots on the photo of the top. I tried to clean the piece to show more of them, but i couldn't do better than this. I have it in hand so, it's easier for me to see them than for you who only have photos.
I was given this one and some other sponges by someone who knows this area very well. The other sponges are hardly identifiable even with them in hand, unless potentially if they are cutted and observed with a microscope.
This one is from afar the better candidate for an identification.

If you are interested, i had the pretention to write a little article for the paleontologic journal of my club about sponges in general with the great help of Joseph Botting. I can send you copies.

Have a nice week-end.
Sophie.
