I concur completely with Hans, but there's more to it, as Sjaak explains perfectly. I have no issues with legislation that effectively protects sensitive natural heritage from destruction (including destruction of information), on the contrary. But I do have issues with the collateral damage of severly impeding serious citizen scientists. We all know they form a vital symbiosis with the scientific world.

Being able to collect is, as Sönke stated correctly, a very important way to save anything important from erosion and quarrying, whether those things can be considered natural or cultural heritage. I know too many places where people aren't allowed to collect anything at all, while nothing is being done to preserve the site from erosion. Collectors having fossils, minerals, historical artifacts: it only makes sure those items are not lost to having no value whatsoever in the end, simply because they still exist.

Also: playing the terrorism card again?! Get tae fock, ye fear mongering bastards!

All European countries need to transmit the EU guideline 2014-60 into national law. Following the guideline palaeontological stuff is newly considered as cultural good.

This now causes the problems, but the greater problems are caused by the German Ministery which tends to exceed the guideline in a way which restricts science and fossil hunting.

I hope your government will do this another / better way.

heb ook getekend. Ik ben geen echte Duitslandganger, maar het gieten van een Europese richtlijn in een wettekst zoals in Duitsland gebeurt zou ook onze ministers in de Lage Landen kunnen inspireren. Wij vernietigen toch geen cultureel erfgoed, integendeel wij vrijwaren het. Daarom ook een warme oproep aan iedereen om deze petitie te ondertekenen.

We are deeply thankfull to all the persons who have helped us. Without the mostly positive feedback from the collector communities and from professional scientists we would have resignated sometimes.
But in the constitutional process we have reached a lot for all collectors in Germany and surroundig countries as well (evenwe are not completely satisfied with the final law)

the law was pubished in the "Bundesgesetzblatt" today, so it takes effect from tomorrow (06.08.2016).

If you have any problems based on this law in future, please inform me with all details. Hopefully, I will be one of the experts asked by the German governement for the negative/positive effects of the law when it will be evaluated in five years.
