Hoe behandel je de fossielen die je in Engeland vindt?
Wij weten dat we de fossielen uit Sheppey en Folkestone moeten ontzilten en daarna behandelen met verdunde houtlijm.

Hoe zit dat met de krijtfossielen zoals egels en dergelijke?

It depends how they are fossilised, if they are Pyritised they would need to be soaked in water, dried slowly, and then varnished. I'm not so sure on the rest.???

Part of them is pyritised, so we will soak them en then treat them.
Do you soak chalk fossils from the beach?

Truly I have never found chalk fossils before. Now I feel ashamed. Maybe this would help. http://english.fossiel.net/informatie/preparation.php Are your chalk fossils surrounded in chalk ore are they chalk?

Normally I wouldn’t soak them if I found them though!

the cleaning is ok, we just wondered if we should get rid of the salt in the fossil.
We decided not to soak them and just prep them with water and toothbrush.
