Hi everybody. As I got about halfway done with this ammo, I realized it had some major damage. I had to stop and have a good cry for a couple of hours! Ha! ok, just kidding about the crying part, but I went ahead and finished it up anyways because of the beautiful color!!! One of my sons found this one in the Fox Hills Formation in South Dakota. If anyone can tell me what species this is, that would be great. Thanks

Hi Ron,

I can\'t help you with a name, but what an ugly ammonite! Throw it away! No better yet give it to a grazy sharksteeth collector! That would be a laugh! I have a address in Norway so you can send it right away ;) :D

Great ammonite!

Greetings from Norway!

Martijn

Hello Ron,

Very nice ammonite!
Perhaps crying isn\'t necessary!:)
Probably the missing part is the trace of predator. The enemy attacked him from the back. He cut a part out of the shell to get in the edible part of the ammonite.
We just heard this in a speech of Adiƫl Klompmaker about ventral damages of ammonites.
You might some more information about this on the web.

greetings from the Netherlands

Rafael

Hey guys,, I already knew that the damage is preditory. I find lots of ammos that has the same damgage in the same spot! It just saddens me that its not complete and not damaged! Its still one heck of a nice specimen though! The color is outstanding! It looks even better in your hand in the sunlight! But here is another one from another formation that is a bit rare. This one is from the Santonian age which is about 30 million years older than the first one I posted. Enjoy
