Hello

Today my son and I had a splendid time collecting fossils in Mill. Thanks to Paul and Maarten we arrived on the right location.
We found some 26 teeth; most of them incomplete but there were some beauties. (see picture). Paul was very enthusiastic about one tooth in particular, of which the serrations were bigger then normal. Paul also had a name for it, but I forgot about it right after he mentioned it. Well, Paul, at least I followed up your advice to place a picture here on the forum.

Cheers from Neal and Scott!

Nah, don\'t think so. I would label that tooth as a Cosmopolitodus escheri \"\"with serrations more strongly than normal\".

Anybody else an idea?

@ Neal: Took me a while to find your post. Thought you had forgotten, but then I saw you used the English forum.

Whatever the outcome: it remains a nice tooth even prettier now that you\'ve cleaned it thoroughly!

Cheers,
Paul

Although Carcharodon carcharias is a very rare species in Langenboom, I also think this is a Carcharodon. The serrations of an I. escheri are less strong, and more irregular than the serrations of a Carcharodon.
Anyway, if it ís a Great White, this is a very special discovery. ;)
But Paul is more experienced so I am also doubting a bit.

Hi Neal and Scott.

Indeed a Carcharodon carcharias.
Nice to see that another one finally came out.
There are only 3 ones found in all these years. (that I know of)
Fantastic.

Kind regards,

Rene.

I am still not convinced, Rene and Robin.
But if this should be a Carcharodon carcharias - mind you, I am DEFINITELY NOT saying it is one; I DEFINITELY need more convincing arguments - this should be one more and set the score to 4 then.
That would constitute an unbelievable lucky find for a first-timer.
Go figure, I drag someone interested along and he makes the find of the year (at least so far). What a joke, ain\'t it?
Well at least I can still laugh about it..........for now.

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Well the thought crossed my mind to post it on the Dutch forum, but I took the easy way :)
Is there a museum close to the Mill location? If there is , should I show the tooth there? What kind of actions should I take?

Neal

Neal, I\'ll temporarily move your topic to the Dutch forum, you\'ll probably get more response there.

Since there are obvious doubts about your C. escheri, it might be a good idea to provide some additional photographs.

Hello Frederik,

Thanks for relaying this subject to the Dutch forum.
I\'ve also made two additional photos of the tooth.

Ta-da

Neal
